Walks in Historic West Kirby
The West Kirby Museum lies next to the village's pre-Victorian centre. A short walk up the hill starting at the modern pub called The Moby Dick will take in several buildings of historical interest, including what are probably the oldest structures in the area.
On the left, Number 3 was built in 1699 and Sycamore Cottage is dated 1746. The present Ring O' Bells pub on the corner is dated 1810 but there are historical references claiming that it is the site of one of the oldest pubs in England.
On the right-hand side past the Ring O' bells are a set of thatched cottages called 'The Nook' which probably date from the early 1600s. Continuing up the road will take you to a set of stone steps which run to the top of the hill and a stunning view of Hilbre Island and Wales.
When the centre re-opens in 2013 there will be information to guide visitors around the historic highlights of West Kirby.
